BEST EXAMPLE OF WHERE MY BELIEFS ABOUT ACTING COMES FROM

I always say I learnt the most about acting when I worked on documentaries-- as you see people TALKING with HUGE STAKES simply trying to get someone to DO SOMETHING, FEEL SOMETHING or UNDERSTAND.

They are not "going for emotion" they are trying to get something across and the emotion may or may not come but their only focus is on REACHING WHO THEY ARE TALKING TO.

In ACTING -- we get way too attached to "feeling things" whereas in real life we usually AVOID emotion and go for the intent-- of course we ARE emotional but we hide this-- in fact most people are also usually BRAVE in the face of adversity-- only going to tears when it's truly too much - but quickly steering ourselves back to the POINT OF WHAT WE WERE SAYING.

THE FOLLOWING CLIP FROM A SHOW I WORKED ON IS AN OUTSTANDING EXAMPLE OF WHAT HUMANS REALLY DO.

This doesn't mean AT ALL that you don't have feelings-- your body should be BURSTING with feelings-- but we sit on these and aim to ONLY AFFECT THE OTHER PEOPLE/PERSON in the scene.

When we do this-- the audience get to feel it-- it is our gift to them.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
